The Mayonnaise Jar

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and two cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it up with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed, it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes".
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and the poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
"Now", said the Professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things- your God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favourite passions- things that if everything was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter. Like your job, your home and your car. The sand is everything else-the small stuff.
"If you put sand into the jar first, he continued, there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls". The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. So pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.
One of the students raised her hand and inquired, what the coffee represented.
The Professor smiled, "I am glad you asked. It goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there is always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend!

Nail in the fence

There was once a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that everytime he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence. The first day, the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into that fence.
Finally, the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.
The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say, I'm sorry, the wound is still there." A verbal wound is as bad as a physical wound.

The Secret of Happiness

A certain shopkeeper sent his son to learn about the secret of happiness from the wisest man in the world. The lad wandered through the desert for forty days and finally came upon a beautiful castle, high atop a mountain. It was there that the wisest man lived. Rather than finding a saintly man, our hero, on entering the main room of the castle, saw a hive of activity: tradesmen came and went, people were conversing in the corners, a small orchestra was playing soft music, and there was a table covered with platters of the most delicious food in that part of the world. The wise man conversed with everyone, and the boy had to wait for two hours before it was his turn to be given the man's attention.
The wise man listened attentively to the boy's explanation of why he had come, but told him that he didn't have time just then to explain the secret of happiness. He suggested that the boy look around the palace and return in two hours. "Meanwhile I want to ask you to do something," said the wise man, handing the boy a teaspoon that held two drops of oil. "As you wander around, carry this spoon with you without allowing the oil to spill".
The boy began climbing and descending the many stairways of the palace, keeping his eyes fixed on the spoon. After two hours, he returned to the room where the wise man was. "Well", asked the wise man, did you see the persian tapestries that are hanging in my dining hall? Did you see the garden that it took the master gardener ten years to create? Did you notice the beautiful parchments in my library? The boy was embarrased, and confessed that he had observed nothing. His only concern had been not to spill the oil that the wise man had entrusted to him. Then go back and observe the marvels of my world, said the wise man. "You cannot trust a man if you don't know his house".
Relieved, the boy picked up the spoon and returned to his exploration of the palace, this time observing all of the works of art on the ceilings and the walls. He saw the gardens, the mountains all around him, the beauty of flowers, and the taste with which everything had been selected. Upon returning to the wise man, he narrated in detail everything he had seen. "But where are the drops of oil I entrusted to you?" asked the wise man. Looking down at the spoon he held, the boy saw that the oil was gone.
"Well, there is only one piece of advice I can give you," said the wisest of wise man. "The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon".

Heaven or Hell

After his death, a man was once taken to see both heaven and hell. In hell, there were a lot of people sitting around a table, on which was laid a sumptuous feast. But everyone was starving and crying out in anguish for their arms were much too long to convey the food to their mouths.
He was then taken to heaven where there was an identical scene.....people sitting around a sumptuous feast. Here again their arms were too long to feed themselves. But there was no starvation and everyone was satisfied. They were all busy feeding one another!!

A Difficult Judgment

In a small town in India, a person decided to open up a bar, which was right opposite to a temple. The temple and its congregation started a campaign to block the bar from opening with petitions and prayed daily against his business.
Work progressed.....However, when it was almost complete and was about to open a few days later, a strong ligtning struck the bar and it was burnt to the ground. The temple folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, till the bar owner sued the temple authorities on the grounds that the temple through its congregation and prayers was ultimately responsible for the ill fate of his dream project, either through direct or indirect action or means.
In its reply to the Court, the temple vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection that their prayers were reasons to the bar's burning down. As the case made its way into the Court, the judge looked over the paperwork at the hearing and commented; "I don't know how I'm going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer and we have an entire temple and its devotees that doesn't.

Vigyan Gram

A Vigyan Gram, or a science village, is to come up on the outskirts of Tripura's capital, complete with a museum, library, planetarium, botanical garden, bird sanctuary and other attractions to popularize science among the masses.
The Vigyan Gram, to be modelled on the lines of science cities in various cities in India, would be set up at a cost of Rs 35 crore in western Tripura's Badharghat, a village on the outskirts of Agartala. Already 9.20 acres of land has been earmarked for the science village, which is scheduled to be open in the next 33 months, when the first phase gets completed. The entire Vigyan Gram would be completed would by four years.
The science village project seeks to develop awareness among people, raise the literacy and outlook of young students and people, specifically with respect to science. It will help people to learn about science and scientific works through recreational activities and promote research works. The project will also contribute towards generating employment opportunities and promote eco- tourism.
The Vigyan Gram would also offer excellent non-formal educational facility to supplement the formal science education imparted in educational institutions.
The main objectives of setting up of the Vigyan Gram includes, to grow, nurture and stimulate a culture of science and develop a scientific temper among the people in the northeastern region and to promote innovative and experimental activities through a hands-on learning process.
The Vigyan Gram would also help to promote and exhibit interaction of science, technology, energy and environment with human life and to enhance scientific awareness among the people at large and to showcase the latest scientific and techonological breakthroughs.

Saving of National Honour

While it is not uncommon to show excessive exuberance, excitement and rowdiness in celebrating festivals, sporting events and other events of gaiety in India, we sometimes in this over excitement and happiness forget our duties and do many acts which attracts media attention and may also land us in trouble.
In celebrating National festivals like Independence Day and Republic Day and also while celebrating Indian cricket team's major wins in this cricket crazy nation, use the Indian National Flag to express our happiness. But on such occasions of joy we sometimes intentionally and on other times out of ignorance bring disrepute to the Indian National Flag which is a national honour.
Every now and then we read in the newspapers and see on the television about common man and the celebrities alike insulting the Indian National Flag.
Showing disrespect and contempt towards the Indian National Flag and the Indian Constitution is an offence under 'The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971' punishable with imprisonment of upto three years or fine.
I would like to apprise the readers as to what constitutes insult to the National Flag:
As per the provisions of the aforementioned act-The disrespect to the Indian National Flag means and includes-

1. a gross affront or indignity offered to the Indian National Flag; or

2. dipping the Indian National Flag in salute to any person or thing; or

3. flying the Indian National Flag at half-mast except on occasions on which the flag is flown at half-mast on public buildings in accordance with the instructions issued by the Government; or

4. using the Indian National Flag as a drapery in any form whatsoever except in state funerals or armed forces or other para-military forces funerals; or

5. using the Indian National Flag:-
(i) as a portion of costume, uniform or accessory of any description which is worn below the waist of any person; or
(ii) by embroidering or printing it on cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, undergarments or any other dress material; or

6. putting any kind of inscription upon the Indian National Flag; or

7. using the Indian National Flag as a receptacle for receiving, delivering or carrying anything except flower petals before the Indian National Flag is unfurled as part of celebrations on special occasions includng the Republic Day or the Independence Day; or

8. using the Indian National Flag as covering for a statue or a monument or a speaker's desk or a speaker's platform; or

9. allowing the Indian National Flag to touch the ground or the floor or trail in water intentionally; or

10. draping the Indian National Flag over the hood, top, and sides or back or on a vehicle, train, boat or an aircraft or any other similar object; or

11. using the Indian National Flag as a covering for a building; or

12. intentionally displaying the Indian National Flag with the "saffron" down.

So the next time when you hold the Indian National Flag in your hand keep in mind these points. Give due respect to the Nationa Honour and show that you are a true Indian.

The game of Snakes and Ladders was created in India by the 13th century poet saint Gyandev. It was originally called 'Mokshapat'. The ladders in the game represented virtues and the snakes indicated vices. The game was played with cowrie shells and dices. In time the game underwent several modifications, but its meaning remained the same, i.e. good deeds take people to heaven and evil to a cycle of re-births.

Rocket Singh : Salesman of the year

Rocket Singh: salesman of the year in one word can be described as film which was "different". Different in its packaging, picturism and minute understandings of each of its main storyline protagonists.
Ranvir Kapoor does exceptional justice to his role and delivers believable facial expressions in each of the scenes with different moods throughout, be it the introdictory lighter party scene with friends celebrating graduation, the Interview at AYS sales and even the sorry giving table scene later in the movie. He looks the same person throughout, someone whom you love right from beginning to end of the movie, you sympathize with his states at times and appreciate each of its realistic non filmy mathods to battle the tough circumstances that life as an honest sales representative brings upon him.
The performance by his team ( or his wellwisher friends) in that not so friendly office is another very high point. They are all non virtual,non filmy chracters that we keep seeing in our every day life and somehow relate to them.
This movie was deceptive in terms of its promotional adds, where the lead song was missing, Rocket sales corp worked on contradictory ethics,whereas the promo portrayed ranvir as someone who might be very tactical in terms of his approach,leave about tact, what he was... in two words was straight and honest.
I also was not completely satisfied with the way Mr Puri admits his defeat in the end, it could have been thought in a more believable manner and that ego driven guy who keeps boating about his win-every-game philosphy got converted in a I-Lost person all in a matter of few weeks of sales fall.
Anyways... In all, we to the theatres with your family to watch Rocket singh,The people in the movie have thought and worked out their skin to offer you something different on screen.
A three on five (3 on 5) and a pat on the back for Ranvir Kapoor and other cast members.

I am on my way back to hometown now,

After so long,I am back on my country roads.

Oh!I remember that old farm.Yes i do.

where grandma would live with her dog named boo.

how I would play with boo,the whole day through,

and how bitterly i cried when he died of some flu.

Childhood memories are flashing back in my head,

oh how i wish i cud get those fine days back

but time once gone can never be attained,

though the memories live forever inside the brain...

How slow I am driving I should turn up now,

cause' I have to reach sweet home before it gets dark,

Mumma must be waiting for me so eagerly,

as she used to do so tenderly...

Hello friends.Nice to be back here once again.This time I am here with a very important work and I honestly need u all to join my hands and turn my dreams into reality.Yes,I have seen a dream to make every child literate and educated,because we all know that these are the children who will have to hold the responsibilities of making India a developed and prosperous nation in the near future.But the saddest part is that still there are children who desperately want to get proper education but lack of resources put their wishes back in the pocket.There are people who want their children to get higher and proper education,in some cases even the children are brilliant but lack of money made them to wipe their tears silently n sit back.

So I have thought something that can possibbly fulfill their wishes.All I need is your support.I am launching a social group by the name of PANKHURIYA---PETALS OF LOVE,CARE & HELP..................
Yes PANKHURIYA is a social group which is first of all a 0 money group....I am not asking for any funds or any financial help.Now this might sound a bit odd to you that then how we are going to help such children??
As I said that this group is for the education of those children who quit their education just because they or their parents are unable to provide them the books that cost too much and also the huge amount of school fees seem like a heavy burden to them.Sometimes even if they go to buy these books on second hand rate basis then only their pocket doesn't allow them to go for that.Children of India are the children who can change the face of India and therefore I thought to collect such books n other study materials from all my friends and from you,the books that u probably sell or give someone who can afford...but think about these children who are willing to study but lack of money is a hurdle....i need no money,not even ur precious time.All I want you to do is that please contribute as many books as you can to my organisation so that these children also go for studies.I also want all schools to come ahead n make it a point to educate atleast 5-10 children by providing them free education atleast upto 10th grade.
I want all the education boards across the country to kindly join me and all the schools to make it a point to give free and proper education to any 5 children .We can definitely bring a change by doing this.Suppose if 10 schools join us and each school provide free education to 10 students then only this can make 100 children educated.After completing 10th they can go for vocational courses and can earn their livelihood atleast.
These things are for the future but we have to make it a start so that India can witness a glorious future ahead.....join me if u r with me and bring a change..

Pakistan's dilly-dallying tactics of bringing to books the perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai attacks is now fully accepted by the world community.Whatever credible evidence has been given by India to prosecute 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed and others has been rejected by Pakistan as insufficient.This shows its seriousness of dealing with terrorism.
Despite assurances that the country's soil would not be used to aid and abet terrorism, the fact remains that behind every major terror strike across the globe the perpetrators have acted at the behest of state actors.
The country's soft and dual policy on terrorism is thus reflected.This can be gauged from the fact that the Jamat-ud-dawa with Hafiz Saeed as the head which has been banned by the US and UK due to its subversive activities,has been declared a charitable and religious organization by Pakistan.In the absence of any international pressure and sanctions the country's 'soft on terror' policy only gets a boost.
US President Barack Obama after winning Presidential elections on November 4,2008 had vowed to stop giving non-military aid to countries using terrorism as a state policy.
But within less than a year,the US Senate to strengthen US-Pakistan ties, unanimously on September 25,2009 passed the 'Kerry Luger Bill' which will triple non military aid to Pakistan to $1.5 billion till 2014 despite the fact that such aids have been used to support and conduct hostile operations against India.
It is high time that some concrete steps be taken and sanctions be imposed against Pakistan so that the threat of terrorism which is looming large over the world may end.

The Perfect Boss

There were about 70 scientists working on a very hectic project.All of them were frustrated due to the pressure of work and demands of their boss but everyone was loyal to him and did not think of quitting the job.
One day,one scientist came to his boss and told him-Sir,I have promised my children that I will take them to the exhibition going on in our township.So I want to leave the office at 5:30 PM.
His boss replied "OK,you are permitted to leave the office early today".
The scientist started working.He continued his work after lunch.As usual he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he was close to completion.The time was 8:30 PM.Suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children.He looked for his boss, he was not there.Having told him in the morning itself,he closed everything and left for home.Deep within himself,he was feeling guilty for having disappointed his children.
He reached home.Children were not there.His wife was alone sitting in the hall and reading magazines.
The situation was explosive;any talk would boomerang on him.
His wife asked him "Would you like to have coffee or shall I straight away serve dinner if you are hungry".
The man replied "If you would like to have coffee,I will too but what about children"??
Wife replied "You don't know??Your manager came here at 5:15 PM and has taken the children to the exhibition.
What really happened was....
The boss who granted him permission was observing him working seriously at 5:00 PM.He thought to himself,this person will not leave the work,but if he has promised his childern,they should enjoy the visit to the exhibiton.So he took the lead in taking them to the exhibition.The boss does not have to do it everytime.But once it is done ,loyalty is established.
That is why all scientists at Thumba continued to work under their boss even though the stress was tremendous.

By the way,can you guess as to who the boss was??

She was reading her bed time novel when Nupur's phone started vibrating. Avinash was calling. It was 12.35 in the night! “Hi avi! Kya hua? Itni raat ko... ??? neeni nahi aa rahi kya?”,she said giggling.

“look Nupz, majaak mat udaao yaar... tumhe pata hai na kitni tension hai... !!” he replied in a firm straight voice, expecting sympathy and concern from her, which she hardly got ever.

“oh god Mr Romeo, did you proposed her or not? I made you learn the lines na! Just call her up and be a man, show some god damn courage you Idiot”, she was still giggling.

“had it been you, it would have been so so easy, gosh! Just as Neha picks up the phone, I forget everything... even my name.” he was sounding low!

“look Avi, I think since last 2 years, you have eaten my god damn head over this girl, I think you should go for it tonight, she is your good friend now too and keep telling me how much she adores and respects you all the time... just tell her what you feel for her.” she replied with the same calmness and compassion with which Nupur had been dealing with Avinash for past 8 years.

“aur waise bhi... har ladki ka sapna hoga ki tum jaisa padka usse miley...” she said in a low tone and took a breath.

Avi kept the phone down. She smiled again and resumed her novel, muttering to herself... “pagal hai ye ladka.”

Avi and Nupz were best friends since school days, then college and now professional buddies, have faced so many ups and downs but were always there for each other.

Tee tee – tee tee, her phone started beeping again, she read a text message which was from Avi.

“I just proposed her, she said Yes :) wanted me to marry her soon. I am shocked, numb, thrilled and everything else that I can't express in words”. She called him up. “mubarak ho mr romeo, koi ladki bechari bewkoof ban hi gayi finally”, she said and started giggling again. “Nupz, tum kabhi toh serious hua karo yaar”, he said smiling. He was happy. She was happy because he was happy. “acha ab phone rakho, mujhe mere best friend se baat karni hai”,she said.

“haan haan jao, kal milte hain, tumhe pata hai waise... You are the best, I repeated exactly same lines to her what you told me to, I still dont know How you understand my emotions, more then I understand them, You are the best thing that ever happened to me, ab chane k jhaad pe mat chado...ahem ahem! Jyada ho gaya”, he said this and with voice of laughs, his tone faded away to single beep on phone line.

She opened her room and went out in the garden, she looked up! Moon stared from above. Seemed as if tears were shedding from cheeks of moon and moon light is carrying them and settling them on her eyelids. Her eyelids were wet. Her eyes were red. She cried. “only you knew that I loved him beyond all limits for all these years, I wish I would have agreed to your advice of letting him know about it”,”I wish... I wish...”

she came back running. Stormed into her pillow and busted to tears. She picked up a piece of paper and wrote on it the following lines from a text message which she had learn...

“Zindagi se humne kuch chaha hi nahi

chaha jise bhi usse kabhi paya hi nahi

jise paya usse kuch yun kho diya

jaise Zindagi mein kabhi koi aaya hi nahi”

she opened the window of her room and threw that paper up in the sky, peeping her one hand out. The air blows of chill, carried them up above, some where towards her best friend, the moon. Few minutes later, it rained, it rained as if the moon was crying, it rained as if its every droplet covered the beauty of her selfless true love. She looked up to the moon and allowed the raindrops to splash on her forehead. She smiled.

The Buzz of Greatness

This is my first article. Well not exactly mine. I am just the scavenger who had been on the article hunt for an year now.

The article is just another eulogy in the Lord's honour.

Sachin Tendulkar is God to legions of cricket fans around the world, a status where none can reach and place among the pantheons worshipped by millions...

Much before he commences strapping on his armour, a nation begins to prepare. Across the land in dispirited homes and listless offices, a strange frisson starts to course. The frisson has a hormonal edge, a near sexual charge. In pulsating minutes a sublime duet will be set in motion, it will play between the puissant boy- emperor and his loyal subjects. Soon the boy and his people will be locked in an intense jugalbandi, his every movement of preparation finding its echo in a million eyes scanning time dials, in a million feet beginning to fidget. When he shrugs his shoulders to loosen his cervical knots, a million backs will stretch in preparation for the combat. As he wraps on his elbow-guard, as he flattens his curls with a meshed helmet, his subjects, scattered over the different time- zones of his vast domains, will ready themselves in different ways, simmering tea, pouring whisky, and finally falling prostrate before the TV.

Brilliant men will take pause; important men will take pause. In tribute to one man’s magic, even the traffic will thin. In both statistics and soul, Sachin Tendulkar is not yet the greatest batsman to play the game, and he may well never be— the Don providing the one full stop in a game littered with question marks. He is perhaps not even the greatest Indian batsman to play the game— Sunny was a warrior of the highest rank, without fear, his talent forged in steel, and it does us no credit to dethrone him so readily.

However, all this is contingent on the "not yet". For Sachin is only 25, and what he is already, is indisputably great. (Comparisons with the Don and Sunny have to be seen in context of the pressure he plays under. The media glare is unremitting, the burden of expectation limitless, and the pace blistering. In their entire international careers the Don played on 10 different grounds, Sunny on 55: Sachin has already weathered 80 different arenas.) In time, he will be greater. In time he will create a mountain of statistics so high its crest will not even be visible to ordinary players. In time he will be knighted. And perhaps in time Sir Sachin will be greater than Sir Sunil, Sir Vivian, and who knows in some arcane reckoning even Sir Donald.

What he already has perhaps in more abundance than any other batsman in history is a certain buzz. It is what marks out the greatest sports legends. Muhammad Ali did not have the greatest win- loss record, but he had the buzz of greatness from the first moment he stepped into the ring to take on Sonny Liston; Michael Jordan has never scored 100 points in a game like Wilt the Stilt but he’s carried the buzz from the day he set foot into the NBA ; Pele had it as a 17- year- old. Sachin had it at 13, as a soft- skinned schoolboy; at 16 when he made his international debut he made it as a star.

What is this buzz? It is the X factor. It is where the analysis stops and the awe begins. It is the sense of a whole far greater than its discernible parts. It is Joyce without a dictionary. It is the outer frontiers of human ability and endeavour where ordinary humans can never hope to roam. It is the supreme admiration across which no envy casts its shadow. It is the promise of the impossible. It is god-head without religion.

It is this buzz that Sachin has, this lurking knowledge that he can do anything on a cricket field, that he can change the rules of the game with his bat— and occasionally ball— which brings the spectators to the stadiums. And also the connoisseurs, the experts, the players. The stories are legion of top international players stopping everything they are doing to watch this boy (man?) bat. Even the Don has nodded from his lofty perch. Six months ago, late one night there was a call from Wiltshire, England. It was the great writer Sir Vidiadhar, V. S. Naipaul, on the line. He had heard about Sachin’s back- to- back centuries at Sharjah, the first struck in a swirling storm. He had heard the boy bats like Bradman. Was it possible to obtain a videotape, on returnable basis, of those two knocks? The buzz spreads everywhere, and affects everyone.

It is to Sachin’s enduring credit that in 1998 he finally came to terms with his talent, his billing, and his place in the history of the game. The flicker of doubt that often shadowed his face vanished for good. For the first time the knowledge of who he is could be seen shining grimly in his eyes. A batsman doesn’t become Bradman or Gavaskar because he has unique potential; he does because he goes out everyday and ravages bowlers, and refuses to give them his wicket. In 1998 Sachin finally learnt to play by his own yardstick; not for transitory fame, but for permanent glory. In this, his annus mirabilis, the instinctive plunderer seemed to have learnt that the status he needs to seek is not that of a marauding Mongol but that of a grand Moghul, capable of both conquest and consolidation.

Through the year there was a growing feeling that the prodigy had finally come into his real groove, found his true metier. Today it can be safely wagered that Sachin will end up going places no one has gone before. In the one- day game, he could well end up becoming the definitive batsman, just as the Don is in Test cricket. In Tests, he will make more runs than Allan Border, hit more centuries than Sunny, and yes, make not one double century, but several, and for good measure perhaps reel off even a triple. This is not idiot fantasy, but a fair measure of the man’s worth and determination— finally in luminous evidence this year.

Above all he will continue to pack in the viewers as no batsman has in recent times. He has given us our most stirring moments in a generally gloomy year. And yet he can somehow make us soar beyond crass nationalism. Very often we don’t mind if India loses as long as we can see him conjure up one of his glorious displays of batting. Let him get out cheaply and hordes of us lose interest. Ajay Jadeja once said presciently that his grandchildren would not ask him about his performances but what it was like to play with Sachin Tendulkar. Indians are fortunate that the defining player of the era is one of them; and that he carries himself with a character and dignity first given rare contours by Sunny. Indians are lucky that a short, gifted man can, with a few swishes of his wand, take away the cares and drudgery of their lives and transport them to a 22- yard pleasure palace where the onslaught of disease and the price of onions is for fleeting hours no more real than a distant mirage.

We know that CHROMATIC SCALE consists of every note:

C - C#/Db - D - D#/Eb - E - F - F#/Gb - G - G#/Ab - A - A#/Bb - B - C

We also learned this WHOLE-STEP/HALF-STEP pattern:

W - W - H - W - W - W - H

By applying this pattern to the chromatic scale, starting with C, we arrived at the notes of the C MAJOR SCALE:

C - D - E - F - G - A - B - C

So, what if we were to start on some other note than C?

So long as we follow the same pattern of whole-steps and half-steps, we will get a MAJOR SCALE from that ROOT NOTE.

For example, If we start on G, the notes we get are:

G - A - B - C - D - E - F# - G

Compare this to the notes of the C major scale. Not only does the G major scale have a different root note, It also has an F#.

Here are some points about MAJOR SCALES:

Whatever note you start on when applying the whole-step/half-step pattern is the ROOT NOTE for that scale. (Start on C, get a C scale, start on A, get an A scale etc...)

This whole-step/half-step pattern always yields a MAJOR SCALE. Any other type of scale will have a different pattern.

C is the only major scale that has no #'s or b's. Any other root note will yield different combinations of # and b notes.

When first learning a new scale, It's important to start AND stop on the root note and double check that you are following the correct pattern of whole-steps and half-steps. Otherwise, you'll find yourself slipping back into the C major scale and you won't be able to hear the sound of the new scale.

Once you're absolutely certain that you are playing the right notes, Start making up little melodies that RESOLVE to the new root note.

There's really no way that you're going to be able to remember every note in every scale while you're playing. You have to see the whole-step/half-step pattern for the scale and follow that.

Now, the C major scale has no sharps or flats, so the key signature for C major is blank:

The G major scale has one sharp (F#), so the key signature for G major looks like this:

No two major scales will have the exact same sharps or flats. So, once you get familiar with which scale has which sharps or which flats, one glance at the key signature of a piece of music will tell you what scale the piece is based upon. Add to that the knowledge that you are gaining about how the scales lay across the fingerboard, and you will have a very good point of reference for learning to play any piece of standard notation that you come across.

Your assignment for this lesson is to write out the notes of the major scale in all twelve keys (starting on each note of the chromatic scale).

Here's how to do it:

First, decide which note you want to start on. That will be your root note.

Then, starting on that note, follow the whole-step/half-step pattern and write down the notes you get.

Then choose a different root and repeat the process.

There are twelve possible notes to start on. You have to do all twelve.

Don't repeat a letter-name within a scale. In other words, if you already played A and the next note that you need is a half-step higher, think of the next note as Bb instead of A#.

Major scale have either sharps or flats in them. They never have both at the same time. (There are other scales that DO mix the two.) So, if you start off using sharps, stick with sharps. And, the same goes for flats.

Below, is a chart to illustrate how to organize your scales:

PART I

With this lesson, we are going to begin an exploration into written music. While it is not essential to be able to read music in order to play music, the ability to do so will have great impact on your total musical understanding. The ability to read will also avail you of vast amounts of music that you may not have any other means to access, as well as, allow you to put your own ideas "down on paper".

There are two distinct forms of written guitar music, STANDARD NOTATION (or just plain "music" for short...as in , "Hey, do I really have to learn to read music?") and TABLATURE NOTATION (aka. tab). Both forms are very useful, and each has its strong points and its weak points.

Tabulature

First, let's take a look at TABLATURE:

I'm assuming that you already know the basics of reading tab. If not, go here. (opens in new window)

Tab's strong point is that it is easy to read. Each line represents a string on the guitar, and the numbers tell you exactly where to put your fingers. This makes tab a good choice for notating the position on the guitar neck where the music should be played.

Tab's weak point is that the notation doesn't tell you anything about rhythm. There is no indication as to how long each note should be played before playing the next note.

Now, the example above might sound like this: Tab Example

I stress might because, as I stated, tab notation does not define how long you should hold each note before playing the next. In order to provide this information, many authors go to the trouble of providing text along with the tab that is supposed to make the rhythm more clear. The problem with providing such aid is that in order to interpret the hints, you must already have a firm grasp of note values, time signatures and measures. This knowledge adds up to about 50% of what is required to read standard notation. So, it stands to reason that, in order to fully utilize tab, you need to understand how to read standard notation.

Standard Notation

Standard notation is a fairly complex way of "writing" music. Just like playing guitar, it takes a lot of practice to learn to "read music", but my goal is not to try and give you a "complete education". Instead, my aim is to teach you "just enough to get by". The rest is up to you.

Just like tab, Standard notation has strong points and weak points. The strongest point is that standard notation shows you exactly what the music SOUNDS like (tab shows you where to play the notes only). The weakest point is probably a "toss up" between having to memorize a great many symbols and the fact that standard notation doesn't show you exactly "where to play the notes" (that's where tab comes in handy).

Let's take a look.

First, I want you to imagine a series of lines and spaces that represent all the possible notes that could ever be played. It might look something like this:

Now, imagine that, instead of showing all the lines at once, we were to take only five at a time. This is called a STAFF:

The first thing we need, is something to let us know which five lines of the original diagram we are looking at.

For this purpose, we have what is called the CLEF.

Here is what the three most commonly used clefs look like:

	Treble or G cleff
	Tenor or C cleff
	Bass or F cleff

Let's insert the TREBLE CLEF:

TREBLE means high, so the treble clef is used to notate pitches in the high register. The treble clef is also called the G CLEF. This is because the line that the cleff curls around is used to denote the pitch G.

Now, let's take a look at the tenor and bass cleffs:

TENOR stands for middle, so the tenor clef is used to notate pitches in the middle range. The tenor clef is also called the C CLEF. The cleff's pointer is on the line that is used to denote C.

BASS means low, so the bass clef is used to notate pitches in the lowest register. The bass clef is also known as the F CLEF. The cleff's two dots are above and below the line used to denote the pitch F.

You won't run into the tenor clef very often (unless you want to read some cello music or trombone music), so we are going to concentrate on the treble and bass clefs.

Now, once a clef is in place, we can determine the rest of the pitches from there:

A staff with the bass cleff looks like this:

Notice, that in both cases, that the pitches go from low to high, in order, and start on the first or bottom line. Notice, also, that the spaces between the lines are also used.

The order of the pitches, from low to high, never changes, regardless of which cleff is used, but you will notice, that which particular pitches are on each line and space does change. Therefore, it is important that you commit the arrangements of the pitches, for each clef, to memory.

Now, look, again, at the treble staff, and notice that the lines, from low to high, are E G B D F. An easy way to remember this is to say, " Every Good Boy Does Fine."

If we do the same for the bass staff, we get G B D F A, or "Grizzly Bears Do Ferocious Acts.

So, what if we need notes that are higher or lower than our staff allows? We use what is called LEDGER LINES. Ledger lines can extend outside of our staff, as low or high as we need them to:

Remember, both the lines and the spaces between the lines are used, and the notes are always in order (F G A B etc... or E D C B etc...).

Also, keep in mind, that, unlike TAB, the lines of the staff do not represent the strings of the guitar. They represent pitches. It's up to you to find those pitches on your guitar.

Now, if we were to look at music somewhat geometrically, we could say that it contains vertical movement, as well as, horizontal movement. The vertical movement would be the pitches rising and falling. The horizontal movement would be how those pitches are aranged over time, or RHYTHM.

In order to notate rhythm, we need some frame of reference. For this, we have what is called a MEASURE. If we divide the length of our staff into two measures, it would look like this:

A measure is defined by a BAR LINE. Because of that, often times, musicians will refer to a measure as a bar, as in, "play me a 12-bar blues".

Now, think of a measure as a section of time. We can fill up our section of time any way we see fit. We can even leave it empty if we choose. However we decide to deal with our section of time, though, we need a way to mark this passage of time. There are three tools that help us do this:

TIME SIGNATURE - The time signature is a fraction that you will find at the begining of a piece of music. Some of the more commonly used time signatures include: 4/4, 2/4, 3/4, 6/8, 12/8, 2/2 etc...

The top number tells us how many BEATS will be in each measure. (This is not the same BEAT as we discussed in the tuning section. This beat has to do with how many times you tap your foot, how many clicks of the metronome, how many times the conductor hits you over the head with his little white stick etc...) If the top number is 4, for example, it means that you must play everything within a single measure in the space of four beats.

The bottom number tells us which NOTE VALUE is equivalent to one whole beat. This will make more sense in a moment.

NOTE VALUES - Notes on the staff are represented by a group of predefined symbols, as follows:

Whole note

Half note

Quarter note

Eighth note

Sixteenth note

There are notes smaller than the sixteenth note pictured above. In fact, my notation software will draw notes as small as 1/128, but we'll just deal with these five, for now.

TEMPO - To put it simply, this is how fast you tap your foot.

Now, before we attempt to apply these three tools to our staff, I want you to take a moment and imagine that you have just won one of those contests, where you get to run through a department store, as fast as you can, and whatever you can grab is yours for free.

Usually, you have a set time limit to make your run through the store. Let's call that TEMPO. You also have to consider the size of your shopping cart (TIME SIGNATURE) and the size of the packages (NOTE VALUES), in order to determine how much looting you can get away with.

If you follow this analogy, it stands to reason that, depending on the size of your shopping cart (how many beats allowed in a measure vs. which note value is equal to one beat) and the amount of time you are given (more time = slower tempo, less time = faster tempo), you could fit a lot of candy bars (small note value), or a few small appliances (large note value) in your cart, but a refrigerator might be a waste of effort (note value is too large).

On the other hand, if you go for the candy bars, you might not be able to grab all those little suckers (note value too small) fast enough to walk away with more than enough to give you a belly ache, before your time is up (tempo too fast). Oh well, maybe they'll let you keep the cart (Ain't it impressive the way the new song that I wrote uses some bitchen time signatures?).

Okay, let's see if we can put this all together.

First, we'll insert a time signature:

If we use a different time signature, we change the size of the measure:

If it's not obvious, the note values work like this:

A whole note has the same time value as two half notes. ($1 is worth two 50 cent pieces)

A half note has the same time value as two quarter notes. (50 cents will buy you two quarters)

So on and so forth...

If we have a measure with a time signature of 4/4, we can fill that measure with four quarter notes (in 4/4, a quarter note gets one beat, and there are four beats per measure), one whole note (four quarters = $1), or any combination that is equal to four beats, relative to the time signature.

All that is required to understand time signatures and note values is simple math.

Think of an apple pie (whole note). If you were to cut it exactly down the middle, you would have two pieces that are the same size that, together, are equal to the whole pie (half notes). If you cut the two pieces in half, you would have four equal size pieces (quarter notes). You could keep cutting the pie into smaller and smaller pieces, until the pieces were are too small to cut anymore. But, if your mother told you that you had better not eat any of that pie she just baked, you would have to have all the pieces together to convince her that the whole pie was still there (you just hacked it into tiny pieces in the name of art).

It's the same with our measure. We have to put enough notes in it to fill up all the beats. It doesn't matter how big or small the pieces are. They just have to add up to a whole pie.

So, what do we do with something like 6/8? The formula is the same. We just have a different size of pie dish. 6/8 means that you have 6 beats in a measure and the 1/8 note is equal to one beat. So we could fill up our measure with six 1/8 notes, or three 1/4 notes, or one 1/2 note and two 1/8 notes etc... But, watch out for the refrigerator! A whole note is worth eight 1/8 notes. That means that it is too big to fit in a measure that will only hold six 1/8 notes, and nobody wants to get stuck hanging on to a refrigerator.

So what's the deal with all this note value and time signature stuff anyway? The note values tell us how long to keep a note ringing, after we play it, and the time signature defines what size of note values we can use to fill up our measure.

That sounds good "on paper", but what does it all mean in the "real world"?

Below is a measure in 4/4 time that is filled with quarter notes:

Just like TAB, Standard notation is read from left to right. If you see notes arranged horizontally, as in the example above, they are played in succession. If, however, the notes are stacked vertically, you would play them simultaneously (all notes that occure on the same part of the beat are played at the same time).

Now, each note must be played for it's full value (we'll deal with empty spaces later), which means that you have to let each note ring until you play the next.

I want you to play the above example. Here's how:

Start by tapping your foot at a nice comfortable TEMPO. Once you have a tempo established, begin to count your foot taps out loud. Count 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 etc... What you are doing is sectioning out your beat to match the top number of the time signature. Be sure to say the number at the same time as your foot is tapping, not before or after.

Now, recall that the lines of a treble clef staff are Every Good Boy Does Fine, bottom to top. That makes the note I have put on our staff an A note. For now, use the A note at the second fret of your G-string ( we'll figure out how to determine which A that space represents later).

While you tap your foot and count, play the A note one time each for 1 2 3 4. Be sure to let each note ring until you play the next and that you play each note right in time with your foot tapping and counting.

What you just played should sound like this.

You may have played it at a different tempo, but the quality and eveness of the notes is what are important.

Let's try some different note values:

Remember that a half note is equal in time to two quarter notes, so you have to hold each one out for two full counts. In other words, you play the first note when you count one and let it continue to ring all the way through until you play the next note, on the third beat. This second note has to ring until you count through the forth beat, and ends when you get to one again. If we were to put a whole note on the staff, you would have only one note (whole note = four quarter notes) that you would play on the first beat and let it ring for all four counts.

Before we take a look at how to play notes smaller than the quarter, we need to have a quick note-anatomy lesson.

Below is a diagram of the eighth note:

And here's our note value chart, again:

The whole note is nothing more than the note head itself and is not filled in. (some people refer to these as footballs) The half note has an unfilled note head, like the whole note, but it has a stem. The quarter note looks just like the half note, except the note head is filled in.

Now, the distinguishing characteristic of notes that are smaller than a quarter, is the flag. Each flag divides a note value in half. So, one flag gives us an eighth note, two flags gives us a sixteenth note, three flags would be a thirty-second note, four flags a sixty-fourth note etc...

Let's look at some eighth notes on our staff:

Now, in lesson one (opens in new window), I had you practice your picking hand to a metronome. You started by playing one note on every beat. Those are quarter notes. Then I had you switch to playing two notes, evenly-spaced, for every beat. Those are eighth notes. I, then, had you play four evenly-spaced notes per beat. Those are sixteenth notes.

When several notes, smaller than a quarter, are written in succession, an interesting change takes place. Instead of having to draw all of those flags, someone came up with a handy shortcut, the BEAM. The above example would actually be written like this:

The first example is beamed to match the beat, and is more correct. The second example has never made any sense to me, but it is widely used (guess people who write music are lazy too).

The important thing to know is, beams are exactly like flags. One beam is used for eighth notes, two for sixteenth notes, three for thirty-second notes etc...

Let's look at an example of eighths, sixteenths, and thirty-seconds:

So, what about sharp and flat notes? How do we notate those?

The lines and spaces of the staff do not account for sharps and flats. For that, we have to re-introduce three symbols:

	Sharp
	Flat
	Natural

You will find these three symbols used two different ways.

The first way is called the KEY SIGNATURE (usally refered to as simply KEY).

Let's take a look:

The key signature works like this. Whichever line or space the symbol is on, that note will be sharped or flatted, every time you play it, for the entire piece of music.

Let's look at a more simple key signature:

In the key signature, we find a # sign on the top line of the staff. That line represents the pitch F (remember, Every Good Boy Does Fine). So, the key signature is telling us that every F in this piece of music will be an F#. That goes for, not only, any notes on the same line, but, also, for any other F in any other octave. They will all be played F#.

All four of the notes in the above diagram are F#. (You have to count the lines and spaces from any note that you know. We know that the first note is F, so if we count lines and spaces up to the second note, we get F G A B C D E F. The third note is on the space between the E line and the G line. You shouldn't have any trouble figuring that one out! If we count from the bottom line of the staff to the fourth note, we get E D C B A G F.) If we were to add more ledger lines for higher F's and lower F's, they would be sharp also.

If we add more sharps to the key signature, then those notes would be sharp as well. It works the same if we were to use flats.

The second way that these symbols are used is as ACCIDENTALS. Accidentals are used as a way to temporarily change the key signature.

Suppose we were to play one measure of notes with a certain key signature:

The notes in order are G A B C D E F# G. (Make sure you understand this, because I will stop cueing you after this lesson.)

Now, let's say that, in the second measure, we want to play F instead of F#. We would add a natural sign as an accidental:

The natural sign in the second measure cancels out the sharp sign in the key signature. So, in the second measure, we would play A B A G F E D C.

A couple of points about accidentals are in order:

Accidentals only affect the line or space they are written on. If we were to play any other F, higher or lower, we would play F#.
Accidentals only affect a measure from the note they are written next to until the end of that measure. In other words, if we had any F's in our second measure, but they were before the accidental, those notes would still be F#. Only notes after the accidental are affected. If we have any F's in the third measure, they will also be F#. If we want to alter the F# in the third measure, we have to put in another accidental.
Accidentals can be applied to any note in any octave. In other words, we could have put a # sign on the C or a b sign on the A etc... The only reason that I used a natural on the F, was to show you how an accidental cancels out that line or space of the key signature.
There is no insurance policy that I know of that covers the use of accidentals in standard notation. You will have to pay for the damage yourself. (I suppose you could try Lloyd's of London. They seem to be willing to insure just about anything.)

You now have enough information to try a couple of exercises.

It's not the most exciting melody that one could hope for, but that's not the point. You have to start simple. I had the luxury of learning to play the trumpet during grade school. At the time, you had to learn to read music from the very start. Now, the trumpet isn't as easy as the guitar to play, so nice and simple music was welcome. What I'm getting at is this. There is no "fun" or "exciting" way to learn to read music. The fun starts once you can do it.

Now, instead of giving you page upon page of boring exercises, I'm hoping that a combination of your own motivation and enough exposure through these lessons will suffice.

It's important that you investigate as much written music as possible. Any music store will usually carry sheet music and piano books, and any grocery store usually carries a few guitar magazines. You should be looking for the things that we cover, like key signature, time signature, note values, pitches etc...

Exercise 2:

Be sure and review the points on the use of accidentals. (For example, how would you play the 5th note in measure 3?)

Now, don't just follow the TAB in these exercises. Take a good look at the standard notation and try to understand the points we have covered.

sorry for being out of net from past two days, was just a bit busy!
Long time.. hows everyone? I was wondering if you people can help me a bit...

Actually I have to take some wireless net connection now, I was using BSNL unlimited plan and its speed and performance was awesome but now due to some reason...I have to switch to a wireless plan in about 10 days!
Before I make a decision about it, I know many of you have in past or rather are still using wireless modems... can U pls let me know, which is better or how to select or whats the procedure of bills and everything relates to that?

Firefox 3.5 : Enhanced Web Experience

Do you often wait for few seconds, before your browser displays your request?

How often do you delete your surfing history, so that none gets to know about your activity on net?

Do you download videos and audio through some downloader or other proxy sites?

Well these are some common issues that we face while stumbling with our browser.

Today, Mozilla organization officially released the latest version of Firefox. Mozilla Firefox 3.5 , is an open source application i.e. one is free to modify and further develop it . It has come up with many unique and exciting features so as to make websurfing even more enthralling.

Here are some features that I found interesting that would like to share with you :

1) A1 Speed:

It is the first thing that we all look for prior selecting a web browser for installation. With Firefox2.0 installed, I found a difference in page loading speed improvement in the Firefox3.5 version.Eariler i used to wait for several seconds and now I wait for some milliseconds....

Here is a simple speed test result of the Firefox lastest version with its predecessors.

18,148ms 3,669ms 1,524ms

Which one you see is fastest? Yes, its the 3.5 version.Do check your current browser's page loading speed right away, and compare the results.

It's due the new Javascript engine called Trace Monkey.

2) The multi-tab browsing, recently closed tabs, recently closed windows.

Many a times I used to accidentally close the Tabs, so might you have, isn't it ? But now, there is an end to this worry, coz Firefox 3.5 has Recently Closed Tab option that contains all the tabs of the last sessions that were closed, accidentally or due to some system crash.

3)Private Browsing

Ah! sometimes you may want to do some private browsing on the net. In this mode no cookies, web forms, or temporary internet files are stored. Therefore no one gets to know about it. Hey ! but hang on , your Internet Server Provider (ISP), will have the record of your surfing- the urls, time and place, so private browsing doesn't mean proxy or anonymous browsing.

4)Embed Media directly into your HTML page

Firefox 3.5 lets you directly embed audio and video, into your HTML page(prior you would require a flash plug-in to play the media). Firefox v3.5 supports HTML5 audio and Ogg Theora, Vorbis and WAV formats. These may sound as jargon for you so lemme simplify it , these are the audio and video compression formats, and for more details you are free to do some googling !! [:)] Here www.canavasdemos you can try out some applications.I tried an HTML5 based application for painting.It looked ditto same as Paint in Windows, but here is online ,so good for Linux users like me.

Some of the other sleek features are:

5)Inbuilt support for various add-ons and plugins

There are loads of add-ons & plugins available on internet that are all compatible with it and can customize the browser to your needs. I have recently used Read It Later add-on which helps me to mark the links that I can read in my leisure. Some of the others that i have used are iMacro, Tweetbin, etc. They all have made my work extremely easy.

6)Drag any of your tabs, outside the browsers screen to open it in a separate window, and opposite is also true which currently no other browser offers.

7)Location Aware Browsing: Tells your geographical location.

8)Compatible for all platforms whether Mac, Windows Xp, Vista, Windows 7 or Linux(any distro-Red Hat,Debian Ubuntu,Mandriva etc.). For Linux based distros tarball files (.tar.bz2) files are available for download. (Anyone who wants to know about the installation process can see the official site or jus lemme know)

There are numerous other features that have been incorporated by the developers in the latest Firefox v3.5 . It's really worth giving a try to enhance your web experience. So go ahead to install and upgrade your current browser with Firefox 3.5

Jim Douglas Morrison was, is still and will undoubtedly remain the greatest or probably one of the most distinguished front men ever in the history of "Rock and Roll". He was the lead singer and the lyricist of one of the most popular and respected rock'n'roll bands, The Doors.

Morrison was born on December 8th, 1943 and had a distinguished I.Q. of 149 since his child-hood days. He had a very tough child-hood as he belonged a family who used to follow a strict military tradition called "dressing-down" where the child was consistently yelled at and badly berated till the time he acknowledged his fault or failings. Therefore his early life was a "nomadic existence typical of military families". Consequently morrison's education was greatly disrupted as he kept moving from school to school since he belonged to a naval family. Nonetheless, he proved to be a capable and intelligent student particularly drawn to poetry, literature and psychology. At the age of four years, he witnessed an accident in a desert where some native americans/ red indians were injured and killed. The following incident is reported to be the most formative event in his life where his thoughts drew towards humanity and other aspects of life such as sensations, feelings and emotions which can be seen in his poems and songs. He used to write poems and lyrics as his hobby, which were based on morals and other phases of humanity. Soon, he started singing his poems and verses which transformed him to an unusally rare, heavy-voiced singer.

Jim completed his graduation at the famous film school UCLA in 1965 where he met his fellow band-mate and bassist, Ray Manzarek. Shortly thereafter, drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Kreiger joined-in to form a rock-band which they called as The Doors. They started playing soft rock'n'roll music with a wierd and rare style which gave them recognition at the local level. In 1967, The Doors achieved national recognition after signing with "Electra Records". The band's songs were Morrison's poems transcribed to rock beats which were either joyful, sad or depressed. The complex lyrics had a great affect on the listeners and consequently drew a heavy fan following for The Doors who became the heroes of rock'n'roll soon after. Morrison came to be known for his Baritone vocals, wierd acts and his famous leather pants which he used to wear in most of his concerts. His fans, journalists and scholars have referred him as a man of amazing theatrical stage persona where one could see him falling here and there on the stage during the concerts along with non-stop singing. He used to remain depressed most of the time on top of his success and un-ending fame which made him follow a self-destructive life-style involving heavy drugs and alchol. In the later years, he began to appear late for his shows, a result of drug-taking and drinking. He soon abandoned his leather pants and gained weight along with a heavy-beard which was an unusual image for a successful rockstar in those days. He apparently died at the age of 27 years in a bath-tub due to drug-overdosing.

Morrison's death created a chaos and despair among the fans as a great legacy called "Jim Morrison" had come to an end. He is reagarded as one of the greatest poets ever. Some of his poems can be seen taught to children in nursery schools till today in America. He was also linked to famous women like Nico, Grace Slick and the greatest female blues singer ever, Janis Joplin on an alleged alcohol-fueled encounter.

He will be remain in the hearts of thousands of his fans forever and shall continue to inspire the coming generations with his great contribution to the music culture and creativity. Some of his great compositions(tracks) along with the band are:

NOTES - I had always been hesitant to share any visual philosphical poetry at any public meduim right from childhood but have written ample ammount of strange verses, whose actual sense I believe that only I understand! In short they are poetic blunders but some mystifying words and nothing more... this one seems to be just one more like that! :D . mirror metaphor. is the key to this poetic piece actually!

ENQUIRY AND some blogging tips

Dear Pulkit,

Does any of your friends have a Vista operting system.I want to remove a software from my laptop but could not find the add of remove programs application in the Control Panel.

Also tell me how can I send a link of the posts which I have published to friends etc. just as you used to send links of your earlier blogs to me.Also if I want to upload a photo/picture with the text, how could I do it.I was not able to find anything as upload photo on the blog.

U followed our good old process of Start\Settings\Control Panel\Add Remove Program path. So U clicked on Start button and from there I was able to see "Settings" menu option. U clicked on that and saw "Control Panel" menu item. So far so good. Now U could not see any logo with "Add Remove Program". So I advice that u do some dig around and noticed that the new menu item or control panel item is named Program now.

After you click on "Program" item in next group of icons/options you will see option named Installed Programs. That one will give you the list of currently installed programs on your machine.

Next task I wanted to do was remove an existing program from the list. Now I am missing our good old Modify/Remove button. Since MS is doing all through windows explorer so obvious place was to look under File menu. And thats where you will see Change/Remove menu option. Use that to uninstall or modify current install of the programs.

And if you are looking for Add/Remove Windows Components option, that has been named to Windows Features. Following snap shot show what you will get if you click on Windows Features icon from previous image.

And if you are looking for Internet Information Services (IIS) related components, then you will find Internet Information Services entry in previous image and you can configure those components from that. Following image shows what that configuration entries may look like.

3. then drag that pic
4. then place it... above whichever para u want.
4. save ur work!
and then... 5. publish!

The internet or world wide web founded by Tim Berners Lee has brought about an information technology revolution and has made the world a smaller place by bridging the communication gap.It has also made our lives convenient by providing a host of services.Also one can enrich his knowledge and keep himself updated of all the latest happenings across the globe at the click of a mouse.
But the dark, ugly and evil side of the internet is far more dangerous and harmful for the society than the benifits available from it, and has wider ramifications.
Internet pornography has grown to alarming levels during the past decade.Thousands of pornographic sites which provide salacious, vulgar and obscene content in the form of videos, texts, animation and pictures are very easily accessible to appeal to the prurient interests of the viewers.It is having a very harmful impact on the society and specially the adolescents.It also encourages one to deviate from normal behaviour and commit crime.
Though many countries have enacted laws to deal with this menace including India which has framed The Information Technology Act, 2000 to deal with pornography and other cyber crimes.It has not proved much effective.
The steps taken by China in this regard are laudable and it has taken the lead in dealing with this problem.
The Government has setup a department called The China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Centre [CIIRC] which acts as an internet watchdog and has shut down more than 4,000 pornographic sites since January, 2009.It has even asked all the computer manufacturers to pre install an internet-filternig software called 'Green Dam Youth Escort' from July 1, 2009 before selling their products.The software would block pornographic sites and images.
It is high time that other countries setup similar departments and emulate the Chinese model in this respect and also impose similar restrictions on wap sites accessible through mobile phones so that one doesn't get trapped in the 'web' of the world wide web.

The Fourth Estate is an important pillar of our democratic system.The press enjoys freedom under Article 19 (1) (a) of the Constitution of India [Freedom of speech and expression] and should exercise this freedom in a responsible and proper manner so as to best serve the interests of the society.Freedom of the press reflects the very essence of the political liberty of a nation.But it seems in the present times the press [Electronic Media] have transgressed all limits of this freedom.They are behaving in a way, which, instead of serving their needs, are proving more harmful to the society by acting in a manner prejudicial to their interests.
The electronic media [news channels] have completely deviated from the purpose for which they are meant and it seems they have forgotten the meaning of the word 'news'.They are now the playing the diverse roles of a marriage counseller, investigative agency, legal consultant, policy maker and what not! They even intrude into the lives of people by interfering in their private affairs and showing them on television under the guise of airing it in public interest and public good.They thus invade the right to privacy enshrined under Article 21 of the Constitution of India.
What interest of the society will be served if a couple sitting in a news studio are resolving their matrimonial disputes with the help of a news anchor? It is in a way undermining the position of the Courts, the conciliators meant for the purpose, marriage bureaus etc.
Though every fundamental right is subject to reasonable restriction in the interests of the society and the nation, it is hardly exercised in respect to the press.
The media vows to evolve a self regulatory mechanism every time a hue and cry is raised against this type of conduct.
The time has come that the Apex Court lay down certain guidelines for the conduct of the press and the media so that they may behave in a responsible manner enjoying their freedom in the right earnest.

waked up at 10, this morning, the very first visual that I saw on television was shocking and sad as hell.
Micheal jackson submits to death!

I sob silently for about 5 minutes and then immediately went in my room and play "dirty diana", and I have a smile on my face! for some unknown reason... Did He ever died? Did janis joplin, kurt cobain, jimmy hendrix ever died? I guess... No! these people have made themselves Irreplaceble on The span of time... from the very moment these souls make their mark to the every day when even a single song of their plays in some CD player or a radio show, They Live on!

I thought how hard it might have been for Micheal to everytime move out from his home for the past decade when he was just being joked about in so many videos, and talk shows !! I feel it all is one big disgust this very moment..

I know that death of WHACO-JHAKO is just an illusion, an outer layer thats on our television screen but he was immortal, he is immortal and would always be that....

One of my earliest memory of encoutering his work was in class 3rd, about 10 years back... tapping my foot to the song "Black or white", I dint knew that time that It was a MJ classic! Then My love for Michael reached its epicentre when My brother gifted me "MJ- Number ones" on my birthday when I was in class 9th !! That is one of my most treasured cassetes still in my collection!

First two are 80's and 90's based theme classics... but particularly for those who believe that MJ had forgot everything after 98, then pls... listen to the track "BREAK OF DAWN" and then ul know, he still had a gr8 deal of music in him....

may god bless his soul and may he finds solace in the arms of almighty whomsoever he was trying to search while switching religon, a few months back... may he witness the same faith and rest in peace! may his fans and family gets the stregth to bear this immense feeling of loss!

As every genre of music has its own style,own rhythm,its own lyrical quality ,scale and pitch so does there is the difference in the instruments used.Every genre of music has somewhat different musical instruments that produces a sound which makes the music style different and thus music sounds different and makes us able to choose our favorite style of music.....
Talking about country music,it is the only genre of music that has very different kinds of musical instruments that make the music so melodious,pleasing and soulful.So here i want to acknowledge you all with the musical instruments used in country music.....

DULCIMERS::

The mountain dulcimers are the most important and vibrant country music instrument.It is said that it was originated over 200 years ago.Dulcimers are only used in country music.The first dulcimer was made in PENNSYLVALIA in the late 1780s.Dulcimers were first used in the folk music of Virginia,West Virginia,Ohio,Tennessee and North Carolina.The sound of Dulcimer is unmatched.

The best Dulcimers players so far are Lois Hornbostel,Leo Kretzner,David Schnaufer,Lorraine Lee,Larkin Bryant,Howwie Mitchell,Holly Tannen and Barb Truex.

ACCORDION:

During the early days of Country music,Accordion played a very significant role.In later years it was replaced by the steel guitar but recently many country artists started using it again .True country Accordionist are very rare breed.Pee Wee King is a very fine Accordionist who gave the Accordion much more exposure with his beautiful recording of the Tenneessee Waltz.Country artists like Hank Williams,Bill Monroe,Roy Acuff,Marion Martin started using Accordion in their recordings.
There are two styles of Playing Accordion and they are SLIPSTYLE & COUNTRY WHIRLS.The first Accordion was made in 1728.

HARMONICA::

The harmonica is a free reed wind instrument which is played by blowing air into it or drawing air out by placing lips over individual holes (reed chambers) or multiple holes. The pressure caused by blowing or drawing air into the reed chambers causes a reed or multiple reeds to vibrate up and down creating sound. Each chamber has multiple, variable-tuned brass or bronze reeds which are secured at one end and loose on the other end, with the loose end vibrating and creating sound.
Harmonica was developed in Europe in the early 19th century.It was first appeared in Vienna.There are two techniques of playing Harmonica.The first technique is called VIBRATO,where a shaking note is given to harmonica by closing and opening hands around the harmonica.The second technique is called HEAD-SHAKING technique which is used in country music as well as blues.It is the moving of lips between the holes of harmonica very rapidly.
The best Harmonica players from the world of country music are:Charlie McCoy,Mickey Raphael,Jimmy Fadden,Terry McMillian,Mike Caldwell,Delbert McClinton,Leo Enry,klint Black,Kevin Garinger,Eddie K Lively.

The guitar arrived in America with early European settlers during the Industrial Revolution.As the guitar became popular in stringbands, a number of guitarists began creating their own innovative styles.the first successful solid body guitar, and its success largely come from country pickers. In the 1990's, though, the technology has changed, no country guitar style, acoustic or electric, is truly out of date, and new ideas continue to flow.But stilll this guitar hasn't lost its charm and other genres also picking up rhythm from it. Well there are so many artisits who used it,i should say that almost evry artist used this guitar for his recordings,so no need to mention the name and each one who played this guitar is simply great in his own way.

Winning and losing are a part of life.No person who is successful in life has achieved that position without facing failures.Failures only encourage us to perform better next time.There are ups and downs in every field be it education,entertainment,music or sports.But it seems the frenzied crowd in India does not understand this.There unruly and uncivilized behaviour reflects this every time the Indian Cricket team loses a match or tournament.They resort to wild and belligerent method to show their anguish.These range from burning effigies,taking out funeral processions of cricketers,garlanding their posters with shoes and blackening posters with shoe polish.This kind of behaviour is highly deplorable and against the spirit of sportsmanship.One should realize how does the cricketers feel when they see this kind of behaviour from the citizens.They have put their best to win and this kind of behaviour from the countrymen is demoralizing for them.Australian cricket team who dominated the cricket world from 1999 to 2007 winning three world cups in a row, put up a very poor show in the recently concluded T-20 World Cup.But did their countrymen received them in such a way.Srilanka who was the runner up in the tournament also did not get this kind of welcome after returning to their country.Those protesting in such uncontrolled way should put themselves in the shoes of cricketers.They should understand how does it feel when someone protests in such wild manner over their failures.

A FEW GOOD MEN - MOVIE REVIEW

SAW THIS MOVIE FOR THE 6th Time in total and second time in hindi this afternoon on U-tv Binbass Movies... The best performance of Tom cruise that according to me...!! though I havent seen BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY which too as many say was his par excellence work! jack nicholson, one of my fav ever was as fabulous as always!! and the climax sequense is a masterpiece in itself! a hindi movie called shaurya was its adaptation but I have not seen that yet, though I am sure it would not be even 10% as good as the original

PLOT was as follows....

Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise), son of the late Lionel Kaffee (who held the positions of Attorney General and Navy Judge Advocate General), is an inexperienced U.S. Navy lawyer who leads the defense in the court-martial of two Marines, PFC Louden Downey (James Marshall) and LCpl Harold Dawson (Wolfgang Bodison), who are accused of murdering a fellow Marine of their unit, PFC William T. Santiago (Michael DeLorenzo), at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.

When Dawson and Downey are later arrested for Santiago's murder, Naval investigator LCDR JoAnne Galloway (Demi Moore) suspects that they, who were top-class Marines compared to Santiago, were carrying out a "code red" (a euphemism for a hazing procedure by which a Marine who fails to keep up to standard is "trained" by other members of his unit until he is up to it).

Kaffee's plea-bargaining methods would have prevented the case from ever going to court and causing embarrassment to the Marine Corps and potentially mar Col Jessup's chances of advancement, since he is being considered for the position of Director of Operations for the National Security Council. Kaffee has never even been to court (except as a defendant when his driving license was suspended) and thus can devote himself to his passion of softball. He also lives in the shadow of his late father Lionel who is considered one of the greatest trial lawyers of his time.

MASTERPIECE IN ITSELF - THE FINAL COURT SCENE -

In court, Kaffee questions Jessup and produces circumstantial evidence that does suggest that there was never any intention of transferring Santiago off the base. When this proves to be insufficient, Kaffee confronts Jessup regarding the incompatibility of his ordering Santiago's transfer (ostensibly for his safety from hazing) with his assertion that he ordered that Santiago was not to be touched and that his orders were always followed. When Kaffee asks Jessup point-blank, "Did you order the Code Red?" the judge announces that he is in contempt of court. However, Jessup cannot resist the challenge. Kaffee exclaims "I want the truth!" and Jessup declares emphatically, "You can't handle the truth!".

Because he defends his country, Jessup does not see why Kaffee, who has never seen action, should question his methods: "I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said 'Thank you' and went on your way." Santiago's death "while tragic, probably saved lives." Pressed by Kaffee, "Did you order the Code Red?", and furious that he has to hide what he views to be necessary conduct, Jessup bellows "You're goddamn right I did!"

ROCKET SCIENCE - movie review...

a couple of minutes back on HBO , I finished watching this movie ROCKET SCIENCE...
which has again made me think that how amazing and unique is every second hollywood movie that you land up on! I mean... from where the hell do they come up with unique concepts every now and then!!

this movie was though not that entertaining as the promo trailor promised in afternoon but still a decent one! the acting performance of the lead actor was no less then brilliant and the sound track was awesome!

let me tell you what the PLOT WAS ....

Life is not easy for teenager Hal Hefner of suburban Plainsboro, New Jersey. His parents have abruptly split; his older brother, Earl, is a budding obsessive-compulsive who pushes him around; and he has an unpredictable stutter that makes high school an exercise in embarrassment, self-effacement and terrible lunches. Given that his active mind and quick wit tend to be obscured by his problematic voice, Hal is not an obvious candidate for his school's high-powered debate team. So it comes as a complete, though not unwelcome, surprise when the team's star member, the hyper-articulate Ginny Ryerson, approaches Hal on the school bus one afternoon. The Plainsboro debaters need a replacement for Ginny's former partner, who dropped out of school following a calamitous performance at the New Jersey State High School Policy Debate Championships the previous spring. Ginny, who can compress an eight minute argument into ten seconds without breaking a sweat, dropping a word, or botching a barb, proceeds to present her case for Hal's potential as a public speaker. She has seen Hal, she has seen his promise. Hal is more than just shocked, or even dazed; he is smitten. COUNTRY MUSIC:It is said that the birthplace of country music or in simple words the place from where country music was originated is Bristol,Tennessee in 1927.There was an engineer called Ralph Peer who set up a recording studio there as a work for his engineering and later to check how does it works,he asked Jimmie rodgers and carter family to sing some songs ,who later on became the first stars of country music.They were the people who worked in rural areas.There was a mill worker,Fiddlin John Carson who was asked by Peer to sing in his studios.He sang some old familiar tunes.The early country music was recorded by Victor records.later on Peer and Victor records started to find some new artist who can sing in the same style and beingin countryside they named this tyle as "COUNTRY".

At the time of Great Depression rural people were forced to move towards urban areas ,they carried away the country songs and country music with them to urban areas,there also it was new to the urban people and when urban people heard the country people singing some typical tones they also named it "country songs"

"BARN DANCE"was a radio programme started in 1920's that gave popularity to the country music and people started loving this genre of music.Although that time some genres that are so popular these days were not into existense but people were more into classical music of the era.From 1940-1950 Atlanta Radio station gave popularity to country music.

The country music was gaining popularity but it was the time when there was a need of performing country singer,so there it got HANK WILLIAMS,who brought honky-tonk ethos in the mainstream of country music and became the popular star,,during 1960,CHET ATKINS
was on fire as a great country singer followed by ALAN JACKSON in 1980 and then came the neverending flood of country artists who put the country music on the zenith of popularity.

Hola everyone,

I launched a community for RJ Malancha on orkut and then one for more community (personal friend club) there too with my blog name as its title, those who had been a part of those must have knew what those places are upto! we had amazing time there and we still have a blast there at times... I am blogging for the past one year now! And from july as I complete my one year at blogsworld I would like to start this very venture! I was a regular member of many radio shows that came on AIR once and still I listen to them but not regularly, we share great bonds with some strangers there through dedications on mails on shows like YAFI AND JFU and soon those strangers became friends and then later family, Here on this blog... many of them are a part with me too being one of them! we all know each other very well now and are much much sure about things related to each other then what we were about 2 years back! and here is one more step forward to recluster ourselves to reinvent the relish the friendship of ours! and along with that we will expand our friend club(with our known other frns...just as we use to do that time) and keep growing together :)

lets go to the first question that what is this... if this is not a regular blog...

Those who have been regular on this orkut community... knows that each of us is bonded with net of friendship and that is a driving force to start this venture and nothing else! I am doing social blogging on Writer's louge and let me be very clear that this is no social blog! There on louge, you have rules, you have guidelines, you have to be regular, you try to be read by as many as possible etc etc... but here its nothing like that!

This is just about communicating with each other... talking, discussing and sharing! Sharing what? Anything! U read something... U watched some movie, U saw some news... etc etc ... anything that u waana discuss with us! This is for that! For example... we have kartikey with us! Starting his journey as a blogger... who dont give a shit about what blogging is... but I bet he has great insight about rock and metal artists... infact far more then any of us! Lets hear about all that from him and see... how much we get great info about songs, and artists that belong to his genre of likings!

Then there is Adi, a politically aware person, a sports lover, a cricket follower... let this be a medium for him to speak his heart about things he feel!

Then there is param and ekam, both who have been bloggers and are still there with fabulous personal blogs but they too wud agree that posting on personal blogs is a hectic job! U write something, u check it, u find pics bla bla! Cos its ur own and u have to read comments and answer them... and that too everything professionally while this is something thats PERSONAL! (in real sense) its just the expression! The way u want to put up! No TRP! No page rank improvement methods... we wont be seeking out for new readers etc etc purposefully with out work, instead we will try to bring so many old friends here if possible...for example malancha and other people whom we miss as some of our old ranibow clubs are broken due to irregularity! so.... what are we waiting for? Lets begin!

read other people's piece of intrest and gain as much knowledge as possible about stuffs that you never know
try to develop intrest in other people's hobbies about which they will possibly write here
make friends! Those who are new specially them....
share experiences about everyday issues and problems that you face and make writing a habit too, it always help!
Explore and keep growing... research on things that u want others to know about... share them!
Find awesome songs, videos, pics etc etc from around the web... and share them!
Join this community if u want to discuss things related to blog ( there is no need as such... kyunki yahan pe toh discussions will be there too )

Thats all for now! The last and most important thing that I want to point out to you is that.. as we will move ahead... if there is anyone in ur family and friends that wants to join this blog then the family would surely invite him or her... but the point is that motive of being here should be a growth as a person and a commitment to friendship! I know many awesome bloggers but I havent invited anyone here cos I think they are all fake at some extent and this place belong to all known people... who exist! No strangers here !!
